How important is that metabolic distinction to their pathology during house dust mite allergy?
2:37
Yes.
2:37
So one aspect that we thought would be interesting to look at was cellular metabolism and especially glycolysis, especially knowing that cellular activation and production of inflammatory mediators is often associated with altered metabolism in immune cells.
2:55
And for this purpose, we run a glycolytic stress test, which analyzes the rate of glucose catabolism into lactate and by measuring the extracellular acidification rate.
3:09
And these assays showed that indeed C-glycoph high pro-inflammatory eosinophils had a higher acidification rate.
3:17
So they were more glycolytic compared to the C-glycoph intermediate eosinophils.
3:23
And this is important because this is correlated, as I mentioned, with cellular activation.
4:07
Then you find metabolites, niacin and butyrate, which are vitamin B or short-chain fatty acids, respectively, that can actually reduce the siglic F-high sinophils during allergic response.
