why finance like why like you're financially set why go into that world to help other people
5:20
you know it's crazy and i tell people i think it was mostly purpose um but the other part was just serendipitous discovery like i didn't study finance in school and i think it was the thing that i knew least right um but i've never been afraid of a challenge and so you know coming from a small town being from a small town you know, with the aspirations of being a professional athlete, then getting drafted to Miami, I'm like, I was in a world where I didn't understand any of it.
5:48
Like the amount of money I left school, I had $187 in a region's account to all of a sudden I get drafted by Miami and I got all this money expectation.
5:58
And then even going from Cartersville to to Auburn to Miami, right? Like, how do I do this again? It goes back to there is no template for how to do this and so it was more fear than anything I knew where I come from um and my goal was to not be back in a situation where it's like I know what it feels like to be broke yeah so to go from that to go back to me I was like I just don't want to do that so I just started pursuing information and education around finance and that led to me meeting a group of guys getting involved in banking we opened a community bank um and then the conversation and the contrast of being in a locker room where we're talking about you know what we're doing the weekend where we're going to what we're buying to being in a board meeting talking about how do you build wealth um and having conversations it was just a stark contrast for me and I'm like man I enjoy this um and then you hear the stories of the guys in the locker room having guys that are close to you that ended up on the wrong side of that it's like man i want to be somebody that i wish i would have known as a young guy um being able to relate understand being in the locker room but also saying the importance of now this transition to where it's like okay i'm financially set and able to do these things but for me that's the that's the best part it's pro choice right like i get to do it and i don't use that lightly when i say the word i get to do it right um because these people trust me and allow me to do it um giving my background and upbringing and learning some of the things that i've learned and seeing some of the things that i've seen to be able to share those experiences and knowledge that i've gained

How as a parent and seeing the next generation, your kids become athletes, how do you guide them along the way? Because that's a question I get from a lot of parents like, will my kid be a pro? What am I supposed to be doing for my kid? Should they only do this? I don't think you
26:27
ever know, right? Because it's also the success that I had as a player is also put my son and my daughter in a different situation.
26:36
So they're growing up totally different than I did.
26:39
So there's aspects of what I have that they won't have and they won't be required to have that.
