And I suppose it does also raise a lot of interesting questions about how one defines problems, how one goes about implementing solutions, and how one thinks about the nature of academic research, um, and its role in that.

And I think like the others on this panel, I'd see my discipline's role not as providing sort of neatly packaged solutions to contemporary problems, but to enriching the people who read it and who engage with it, uh, enriching their historical consciousness, their perspective, so their ability to put themselves in a complicated continuum, uh, with the past.

So I'd say that you probably don't need to be a historian or to have an advanced degree in history to realize what I might now say about AI.
