I know most of the people in this room, and I have to say that this is a very special day in my life to be honored for the AT Hall of Fame and to be with the people that are here today.

I've sort of got a speech ready for the induction ceremony, so I'm not going to...

I'm not going to talk about, for example, a great moment with my beloved wife, Rita Molyneux, who's sitting over here.

We met.

And I'm curious how you got started with the AT, how you envisioned your career, and then how it got so involved with the AT for a half century.

How do you feel now looking back on that? Did you accomplish what you set out to do?

I came in as head of the organization in August of 2013, and the organization was very strong, I mean, especially from the starts of years and Larry's years.

I mean, we had a healthy budget, we had good relationships with with federal agencies, especially the Park Service, and with our trail clubs.

I'd cite several things that are important.

First thing I heard was, okay, we have a strategic plan, not in place, but we're halfway through the process, and the focus in the strategic plan was doing something that we really hadn't quite completed yet, which was going from the Appalachian Trail Conference to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
