It was bred by a grape breeder there, and it is a crossing, not a hybrid, because hybrids are, uh, interspecies, um, crossings, and this is within the, the vinifera family or species.

So it was between Riesling, um, which is of course a great grape in both Alsace and Germany, all over the place, and a really almost unknown grape from Alsace called Knipperle.

And you actually do pronounce the K and the N, which is not like knife, right? K-nife.

Um, so and that variety is virtually gone from Alsace, and even Ehrenfelser, which had a popularity in the sort of '60s and '70s in Germany- Yeah, and that faded afterwards.
