I think it's good to depict what was going on in Syria at that point.
13:59
Yeah, I mean, the 2011 uprising, which became a revolution, was part of the Arab Spring.
14:06
So it was part of the larger movement across the Arab world, which mainly targeted political you know, pro-West regimes like Mubarak in Egypt and Ben Ali in Tunisia and so on.
14:18
But of course, the people in these countries didn't necessarily ask themselves, where does my regime fit on the geostrategic chessboard? They were more interested in the fact that economically our lives are terrible and getting worse.
14:34
We don't have basic human rights.
14:36
The police abuse us.
14:38
We're terrified of the intelligence services.
17:31
Those areas where there was the most intense conflict, too, interestingly.
5:53
And so could you tell us about some of the people that you spoke with? How did you get access? And was there a voice or an interview that surprised you or changed how you saw something that you already understood from before? And also really how the idea came about to begin with?
6:14
How did the idea come about? Well, Like every Syrian, when the final 11-day offensive happened, when the Assad regime finally toppled, it was quite unexpected.
6:32
I mean, I think that...
6:33
I had actually written on social media a few two months or something or a month before I'd written.
6:40
If only there were an organized military force that could, you know, attack Damascus now when Hezbollah and Iran have been weakened in the war with Israel and Russia has been weakened in the war with Israel.
6:55
Ukraine and Assad's economy has collapsed and cratered.
7:00
And it's the regime must be ready to fall.

16 MINS LATER

So how to go about carefully examining and cleaning these deep wounds?
