Tell me about that.
4:21
Yes.
4:21
For too long, I think we did associate owning a pet with, you know, a luxury, and someone who only had finances should be able to have a pet.
4:30
But we're realizing just how beneficial pets are in our lives.
4:34
And so shelter medicine has grown so much over the past few decades to not just be a place where people had to go to surrender their pet when they couldn't afford it, but now shelters have sort of changed their mindset, and I think a lot of it actually happened after COVID, w- when we saw a lot of animals being adopted and going into homes.
4:52
And shelters realized, you know what can we do to keep these animals in the homes with the people who love them? And moving shelter medicine from a place where animals are essentially dumped when people don't want them or can't afford them, but how can the shelter professionals help those animals stay in the home with the people who love them? And I think that's where we're moving toward.
5:12
What can we do in the community to place animals in the right home and to get them to be able to stay there? And so that might look like providing lower-cost services like spay/neuter, like vaccination clinics, microchipping, and even some, you know, some minor emergency care.

How would you like that messaging to come together? What would you like the public to sort of think about when they think about their local shelters?
