How does a writer, is it possible for a writer to sort of get better on the job as you feel you did in today's sort of comic economy?

I started with New 52, Greenlander 21.

That went all the way to 52.

What's behind the decisions to open a comic in one way versus another? I guess I guess it's just what the story calls for.
