Mik AidtHOST
So it would probably be a good idea to start with talking with the builder, and that's someone who we've had on the Sustainable Hour a number of times, Robert Patterson, who is ready here to explain what this is all about.

Robert PattersonGUEST
Yeah, well, what we've done, Mick, is we just feel it would be good to get it out there in the community, that there's a real demand for this type of home.

Robert PattersonGUEST
And it's also driven by the fact that there's a lot of people, older people, older women, that are finding it difficult to find accommodation.

Robert PattersonGUEST
And we just see that these tiny homes, if we were able to build three of these on a block of land, would give a great opportunity to build something that's affordable that people can still put money towards and find themselves secure home for the next 15 or 20 years.

Robert PattersonGUEST
I mean I've been a builder for the last 25 years and built a lot of homes and a lot of extensions ranging from Yarraville to Geelong and this was one that was an opportunity to be involved in and to be the registered builder and just to prove that it can be done and we've now got all the tradies lined up and if we suddenly had a block of land with we could build three on We've got all, everybody's keen to do it.

Robert PattersonGUEST
We've got the plasters, the painters, electricians, plumbers and it's just a matter of the political will if you like or the community will to actually do a pilot project to see if it can work and if the money can come together and with a bit of perhaps government input, council input, it makes it all possible.

Robert PattersonGUEST
I think that tiny houses have got a real part to play because for every tiny house that's built, it may be a case that somebody decides, oh yes, that'd suit me and if I downsize, which I'm going to have to do in the next year or two, maybe there's maintenance on the house that's getting beyond an older person.
