But I am curious, having talked to a bunch of folks on both sides about this, what do you make of that request from the math community of essentially saying, if not stop, at least slow way down?
29:17
I think even it's that level playing field we were talking about, I think that is, I agree.
29:23
I think to say, please don't test this thing on that is perhaps a big stretch.
29:28
I also think it's perhaps not a stretch to say, okay, well, there is a history here.
29:32
There is a tradition here.
29:34
There is There are contributions here that you are not acknowledging.
29:39
Like in the early hours of that kind of the big drop, some of the texts are again saying, it looks like they've just got a paper that someone else did like a month ago.
34:37
And you're
6:05
I don't know if I'm convinced he's not in prison.
6:08
Well, we have to look at the purpose.
6:11
Oracle thought of his killing as justified.
6:14
It was more important that those people died, and died terribly, than it was for his need to kill.
6:21
Now, that's not to say he didn't like it, but in my opinion, it was a secondary need.
6:28
The goal? Maybe that's changed here.
6:31
If the goal changes, the method changes.
7:44
So let's lay out what we have here.
8:54
What did Astra achieve and, and why is it a big deal?
8:56
I'm also pretty sure that Astra was probably behind the earlier one as well [laughs].
9:00
OpenAI just listed it as a unnamed internal model.
9:04
It's probably Astra.
9:06
They didn't answer me when I asked, but there we go.
9:08
OpenAI a few weeks ago dropped a blog, along with a lot of [laughs] paperwork, um, proving it, I think several hundred pages, that they described, they called it 10 advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science.
9:22
It was basically an array of disciplines that they claimed the newest model, Astra, had solved in some capacity that ranged from...
13:39
What was the response? Is it, "Oh, the models did this," or was it the response we see to so much AI work, which basically boils down to, "Well, you stole this and didn't attribute anyone, and you've, you've built on the shoulders of giants without mentioning it"? How did the response land?
8:52
[laughs]
8:52
But, uh, [laughs] by and large, it is a, a reasonable characterization.
8:56
Um, the most prominent US models, kind of as you said, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, their frontier models are all proprietary.
9:03
They're all closed systems.
9:05
And in China, by and large, a lot of them are open weight.
9:10
Uh, there are exceptions, [laughs] obviously.
9:13
So Alibaba in China, for example, until its most recent release a few earlier this year in its frontier scale, were proprietary.
10:43
Okay
