So is this as big as it seems on the surface, like millions of people are going to come away from this happy or is there some catching here?
38:15
Well, I think it's important to realize that, one, it basically doesn't change the status quo.
38:21
The Trump administration was trying to amend the rules of public service loan forgiveness to prohibit companies from qualifying if they engage in a substantially illegal purpose.
38:33
Now, on the surface, you might be like, yeah, we don't want companies that are doing illegal stuff to give people loan forgiveness.
38:40
That's like a no-brainer.
38:42
But when you actually read the law, you start to see that there were some massive red flags about what the definition of substantially illegal purpose was and who adjudicates whether it was a substantially illegal purpose.
38:56
And basically, it was to block employers that engage in violations of federal immigration law, support terrorism, perform mutilation of minors, traffic minors, or had repeated violations of state laws.

And does that mean that there's advice for a student in there that if somebody is looking at grad school, not necessarily that you're going to say go where it's cheapest, but that it might be take a look at how well a grad school complies with the student loan rules?

Does this amount to the people who were trying to pay off student loans, who had been in repayment in many cases for a long time? Everybody's got to go through this and they're somehow going to wind up paying more because that's what the public seems to be thinking, at least.
4:04
You know, like all things, there's a lot of nuance to it.
4:08
And so if you want to classify the repayment assistance plan, first, let's break down how it works.
4:13
It sets your monthly payment from a $10 minimum up to 10% of your adjusted gross income.
4:18
That 10% is for $100,000 earners or more.
4:22
And it's stair steps all the way through that range.
4:25
So if you're making $50,000 a year, you're at 5%.

The big thing there has been, are they sufficient? Like if you are a professional and you are capped, given what we've seen in terms of inflation on tuition, are you going to be able to finance as much of your education as you had been?

21:53
What would you suggest they do? Would you suggest the order of operations is to first look at or look for grants or student aid or whatever is available to them? And or second, would you tell them to kind of look at what student loan options are there or do you do both at the same time? How do you kind of think about that overall?
22:10
Yeah, so it really starts actually one step before that is understanding what the price of these colleges are.
22:16
A lot of parents are flying blind into the decision on prices.
22:22
And college can be very expensive.
22:24
College can be free.
22:25
College could be anywhere in between.
22:27
based on a variety of factors, where you go to school, what your income is, whatnot.

27:54
What about even going towards things like community college? Could you do community college for two years and then do in-state college? I that are really, really important that I think most people need to think through.
25:47
It makes it so much easier.
25:48
Makes it so much easier.
25:50
If you're driving, though, let's say you're doing one of these driving side hustles, delivery, food, whatever.
25:55
Everlance is a cool tool because you can start your job, stop your job.
25:59
It uses GPS, tracks all your mileage there, and I believe it actually links up to one of the, uh, main apps out there.
26:05
That way you have all your mileage tracked.
26:08
Because one thing I've learned is that a lot of side hustlers, they go to file their taxes and they forget their deductions.
27:54
... look across the table at?
