So when you're going from competition and having that kind of fun with your dog, how do you transition to the hunting woods in your mind? How do you help the dogs make that transition? Or do you try to keep it pretty similar for your dogs?
6:23
That's a great question.
6:24
And yes, I'm a lot older than you, but when I was younger, the Pennsylvania Game Commission had a training season for dogs.
6:38
March 31st to August 1st, you were not allowed to run your dogs in the woods or in the fields or whatever on birds because they didn't want to interfere with the nesting woodcock, the grouse, and the pheasants, which back then we actually had some wild pheasants.

But they did away with that.

So you could train year-round now – but it's really not good, uh, back home, you know, like June, July it's, it's hot and the cup is real thick.
7:14
So we typically wait until about the 1st of August anyway, uh, when, you know, you start getting some cooler mornings, that sort of thing.

If you're going to look for a grouse at noon, how much different are you looking for the cover to be than if you would hunt morning and evening?
