In When you play His music Because you Have to decide Oh You know All those things How fast am I Going to do This Sometimes There's There's It's specified But Not always And then And then A lotta times There's No clef So it's It's Uh could be Bass clef You know You Pick the Clef So I mean, like I said, so, so there's-- it's an interesting thing that he l- that he leaves a lot of things for you to figure out.

Like that style of writing is something that he really does continues.

You know, the, the exercises from...

I don't remember when that piece was written.

Could be the '60s, I'm not sure.

But, um, anyway, he was using that kind of approach then and he still does `cause he writes s- what he calls these exercises.

Miles and miles and miles.

So we, we would rehe- rehearse and work all day, and then at night eat and drink and go skiing.

Oh, cool.

It's a really beautiful sight.

The-- saw, saw the Aurora Borealis for the first time in my life.

Yeah, so anyway, I had play-- oh, that was 1989.

So I had played it.

So, so he wrote it in 1987, '88.

But then he kept revising it and messing with it.

[chuckles] So, um, anyway, I hope that you enjoy Robert talking about Elliott Carter and Philip Glass.

Well, there was this violinist that I, I used to work with at a festival in New Hampshire, the Monad- Monadnock Music Festival, and the violinist's name was Ole Bohn, B-O-H-N.

He was, like, the pr- co-principal violinist in the Oslo Philhar- or Oslo Opera Orchestra.

So he was, um, he was from Norway.

I mean, he did that for years.

But several years ago he, he retired from that and got a job teaching at the conservatory in Sydney, Australia.

So now he, now he's down there.
