Back to the show.

What's the situation with the maladextrin argument? I read somewhere that there was something going on there.
53:44
So it was a big deal right from our beginning.
53:48
So we have our flavored products.
53:51
I don't have a stick pack in here, but our flavored products, the liquid stuff, you don't have to use a flavor carrier because you can go from a liquid product flavor to a liquid when you have a stick pack you go from a liquid flavor carrier you have to bind it to a non-liquid item which in this case you have choices of like acacia fiber maltodextrin and and things like that and when we first launched uh we tried a bunch of different things and the maltodextrin was easily the thing that tasted the best and when we were doing our our diligence on that we wanted to know how much was in it Our suppliers on their side of the fence, they report it as 0.4 grams of maltodextrin, which is 400 milligrams.
54:45
Somewhere in the communication between them and us, and this is like year one and we're now in year eight.
54:53
it got communicated as four milligrams of multidextrin, which is nothing.

But one of the things I was wondering is how much you're working, like how are you capable of so much output? Because as well, I think you've had some issues with health and I'm wondering what's work looked like throughout that? You've got a family.
7:21
Got it.
7:22
Yeah.
7:22
I kept poking around, and I found this, uh, group online called KetoGains, and it's this guy Luis Villasenor.
7:28
He is based out of Mexico City.
7:31
It's funny.
7:32
It was largely women.
7:33
It was probably 70% women, about 30% men, and he was coaching gals at world championships, doing their strength and conditioning and, like, nutrition, jujitsu, CrossFit, bodybuilding, and I'm like, "How the hell is he doing this stuff?" So I literally started stalking this guy, became friends with him.

That is wild.
94:04
First of all, where were you when you first heard of this news breaking?
94:09
Oh, that's a good...
94:10
Well, well, so, and, I mean, other...
94:11
Let, let's give some...
94:13
I was...
94:15
Luis, who is our other co-founder, but he's not involved in the day-to-day functioning of the business.
94:20
He, he lives in Mexico City.

So I think a good jumping-in point is talking about how your fitness has evolved now as you're in your mid-50s.

Rated PG.

Able to, uh, perform at a pretty high level.

We, I, I decided that I didn't want to follow kind of a, a medical path and ended up co-founding the first and fourth CrossFit affiliate gyms, have been active in Brazilian jujitsu, and although a low-carb diet was great for a lot of the gut and autoimmune things that I had going on, I just had no low gear at all when it came to, like, anaerobic activity.
6:06
So I struggled with that.
6:08
I would try introducing some c- some carbs, cyclic low-carb diets, different things like that for nearly 20 years.
6:14
And then I, I just kept poking around online trying to find some way to make a low-carb dietsupport a high-intensity activity lifestyle.
6:23
And I met this guy, Luis Villasenor, who's the founder of Keto Gains, and these guys were just, they, they had amazing body composition transformations.
