Okay.
42:56
And then we discussed the influence of Abdullah Ibrahim, the late South African pianist.
43:03
And you can definitely hear that influence in this track, Unambeza, from his new album, The Myth We Choose.
44:25
We just heard Anambeza from the album The Myth We Choose and Duduzo Mahakathini, South African pianist.
44:35
So I talked to him and he was just fascinating.
44:39
And I asked why did he use a sampler to bring in voices and sounds from South Africa during a set.
44:47
And what he told me, I think, is the best justification I've ever heard for using a sampler.

5 MINS LATER

50:19
I love it.
21:40
So how do you hold yourselves accountable to s- make sure that you're, and maybe supporting each other to say, "Look, when I don't hold to that standard, here's how we can hold each other to account." So, so supporting each other rather than letting things, you know, get out of control.
22:00
Yeah.
22:02
Great point, Emmet.
22:02
And I think, you know, like you say, we are human, so definitely not perfect, and there'll definitely be times when I've, I've fallen short of that.
22:09
I think, you know, again, we're applicable to those same processes as everybody else.
22:15
So our PDRs are done on the same basis.
22:18
Um, all the feedback that we get is done in the, on the same way.

It's not the fuel to our performance, it just is." Where could they start based on what you've experienced so far of such a great culture of where you are?
StephanieHOST
20:35
this song
20:36
from the radio? And I'd start playing and they loved it.
20:39
And then my teacher took me aside and said, Rob, have you ever thought about writing your own song? Because I know you're playing everybody else's songs right now.
20:50
and that idea had never even crossed my mind that just seemed like you know somebody showing you a brand new color that you have never seen before so he challenged me over the holiday break in december he said go home and i want you to try i want you to come up with some chords the same chords that you're playing right now from other people's songs i want you to find a melody and i want you to write some words down doesn't have to be that long just come up with something so i went home and i was so happy to try this challenge i went and worked on it and two weeks later came back in january and said i wrote something and i played it for him thinking he was just gonna laugh it off but he was so kind and so cool mr tompkins who's passed away but great guy he took this song and he learned it and he taught the class the song and then that following april the class performed that song in front of the school where I got kind of like a little standing ovation in front of teachers, parents, and students.
21:45
And my life was changed completely.
21:49
I wanted to be an astronaut before that, and then I wanted to be a songwriter after this experience happened.
21:54
So literally from there on, I wasn't playing other people's songs.

20 MINS LATER

41:33
Rob, do you want to step in?
