Nobody really goes untouched by a tragedy like this.
4:26
Yeah, that's a good point.
4:28
It could have been so much worse than it was, even with the loss of life that we had, because the airplane didn't catch fire and the flight attendant on board, one of the flight attendants, was pitched out of the airplane during the impact.
4:45
And so that left one flight attendant to try to help evacuate all those people.
4:51
So thank goodness The first responders got there as quickly as they did because they helped evacuate the airplane.
4:59
And again, it was just, you know, but the trouble with this accident, too, is that we've heard this before about air traffic controllers.
5:09
You know, the Swiss cheese thing about, you know, they get through the holes and safety in the safety program.

16 MINS LATER

21:43
Rob, can you explain that a little bit maybe in terms of the different airspaces that are of interest here?
27:58
In fact, it probably tells the story in better detail than the NTSB report does.
28:03
I can't imagine how you did that, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.
28:07
But the facts as we know them from the NTSB came out in the recent final report into the crash of, uh, November 17 Delta Tango.
28:17
That was an SR22, uh, a turbo.
28:20
It came out last week after the airplane had crashed on November 22nd of 2023 near the Shelbyville Indiana Airport in Fairland, Indiana.
28:30
The airplane went down at 16:46 local time and claimed the lives of a new private pilot and his flight instructor.
28:39
Now, full disclosure, I knew the flight instructor in this accident, and we knew each other through friends at Chicago Executive Airport.

35 MINS LATER

63:58
You gotta use it before you lose it, which is if you get too low, it's, it's not gonna help.
39:31
What do professional pilots know and do when they're landing?
39:36
What we know is that there are checklists for everything.
39:40
And as having flown in the left and the right seat on a number of turbine airplanes, once we touch down, we slow the airplane, turn off, And we may stop or we may continue taxiing.
39:56
But then the PIC says after landing checklist.
40:00
And that is the point at which the person in the other seat runs through the items.
40:05
And one of them is usually raise the flaps.
40:09
And of course, even in my experience in turbines, someone will do the afters and I'll watch them.
44:26
So I think the habit of saying flaps identified because you've looked at the word flaps, that I think also reduces the odds of grabbing the wrong handle.
