And especially if you're you keep it character based and, you know, get people invested in the character.
23:52
Yeah, I like I like showing as much.
23:55
I mean, you know, attention spans can be short.
23:57
So I try to hit as much up front as possible.
24:00
But at the same time, you know, as a writer myself, I know so much more.
24:05
It's like the iceberg, you know, it's like the tip is just, you know, that's what you see, but underneath there's way more.
24:11
So like knowing how much to show up front to make the, make the audience fall in love with them, but knowing how to hide and sometimes to mislead, to kind of show, you know, to miss, to, to show one thing, make the audience believe this character is one thing and then reveal later, Oh no, it's actually the opposite.
25:35
They're like cute and then they turn into jerks, you know? And so that's what I try to do, you know, everything from their looks to their gesture, you
19:53
And not to be afraid of like, I don't know, a sophomore jinx or like whatever the fan response would be.
20:00
It took me, I mean, after Chew was over, there was definitely a period of what the hell now.
20:07
Cause I mean, John knows, I mean, after Chew was over, I was, as we approached the ending and I realized early 20, late 2015, 2016, we knew it was going to end in 2016.
20:18
So it hit me that year.
20:20
Oh, like this is done this year.
20:22
What am I going to do next? So that's when I started, you know, texting John on the side, like, Hey man, are we, are we knowing something else? Like what's going on? And he just wasn't there.
20:31
So I thought, OK, you know what? I've always before John and I hooked to get hooked up before that comic con where we hooked up, I was actually going to be marketing myself as a writer, artist.
25:39
They can't do that for a creator on book.
6:34
So I like I put this thing together and just freaking dropped it on Rob's lap.
6:38
Yeah.
6:39
Yeah.
6:39
I was not expecting it at all.
6:41
I mean, I had just I had wrapped farmhand a couple about a few months before and I was just minding my own business.
6:48
I was actually planning.
6:49
I was planning to do a Kickstarter solo.

16 MINS LATER

23:12
So I didn't tell my friends they were doing research for me.
18:06
I've talked to you a lot about this in the background, but how are you feeling about comics and the comics industry as a whole right now, and how is that kind of informing your decision-making? That's a lot of question.
18:17
I thi- That's a big question.
18:18
Uh, I think that so much has changed since 2009, you know? I, I mean, just looking at, like, um- How comics are marketed has, has shifted so dramatically.
18:29
We're having to contend with so much friction in terms of algorithms.
18:33
You know, back when we were starting with Chew, um, you could actually get some major traction on Tw- on Twitter.
18:39
Uh, you know, there were, there were some primetime years on Twitter that were pretty sweet, and Chew was right in the middle of them, where we went kind of, um, we went viral through word of mouth via social media, uh, and, uh, comic sites.
18:54
You know, you had your CBRs, Newsarama.

5 MINS LATER

24:14
It kinda goes back to that infrastructure where we're talking about where it's like you can do that, you can have Farmhand, you can have other things you're doing, you can be selling merch, and it all kinda contributes to, like, the sustainability of your comics career.

22:11
What about you, Rob?
22:12
Yeah, I mean, like John said, it's been over a decade.
22:16
I think that we're just having fun at this point.
22:18
And we always kind of intended to go back.
22:20
I mean, this isn't a true sequel, but we always kind of assumed that we would probably go back to it in some way, just because why wouldn't we? We had such a good time, and People seem to enjoy it.
22:32
So why wouldn't you kind of serve that audience? But yeah, I mean, no, we I don't really feel any pressure to I think that's the benefit of there being there having been a 10 year gap.
22:44
It's like I don't I don't feel any pressure.

31:39
I said the same feeling that you have there, Rob.
19:38
Rob.
19:39
Yeah, yeah.
19:39
I mean, we're looking at about 72 pages, probably issue one and two with scripts.
19:45
We're at the concept art of full covers for the first arc.
19:50
And we're probably looking at I think some of the thresholds are probably going to be more story, probably some Kickstarter exclusive stories.
19:57
And we are looking at some potentially some shoe crossover.
20:02
Oh, lovely.
23:25
What were some of your do you remember some of your earliest comic books that you picked up or do you remember some of your earliest art influences?
