Uh, c- tell, uh, a l- our listeners a little bit more about what led to the creation of Gay Sons and Mothers.
0:50
Sure.
0:51
There's been so little information out there about the impact that a mother has on her gay sons.
0:57
And I am a psychotherapist.
0:59
I've been working with gay men and some of their mothers for a bunch of years, and I thought I would write an article, and I started interviewing people, and then suddenly it was like, "Whoa, this needs to be a documentary film," because this relationship is so profound and so sacred, and mothers frequently worry that they're not doing it right.

Describe this film to us.

And I just had an epiphany 12, 13 years ago.
4:34
I found an old photograph of my mother and myself when I was about six years old.
4:39
And I was looking at this photo recognizing my mother's love for me.
4:45
And I realized, oh my God, I'm so lucky to have had a relationship like this because so many of my clients didn't have the same experience.
4:56
So I decided that I was going to do a little bit of work on this topic, a little research and maybe do a short article about why a mother's love is so important to her gay child.
