And if someone has their own goals in life, how would you advise them to break them down in their mind to make them seem achievable and not something like an Olympic medal that might seem out of reach?
13:01
I would say one of the biggest things that people get wrong with setting goals is they don't set them clearly enough.
13:11
I feel like it's a little bit of a protective thing that people set unclear goals, very foggy, very...
13:19
Like, yeah, I want to kind of do this.
13:21
Or maybe they even say things like, I want to be successful or financially successful.
13:25
It's like, what does that actually mean? What is the exact thing that you want to achieve? For me, it was, I want to win an Olympic gold medal.
13:34
And then you kind of reverse engineer that.
18:23
How do you, do you have that or how do you manage it if you do?
17:43
Talk to me about the strength it takes for something like that.
17:47
Yeah, I guess it's controlled strength.
17:50
The goal of gymnastics is to move your own body weight around the given apparatus in an efficient way, in a seemingly effortless way.
18:01
But it's far from effortless, for sure.
18:04
It's years of training that it takes to get up onto that pommel horse and perform a routine like I did at the Paris Olympics.
18:11
So a lot of time, a lot of effort, and thankfully it paid off.
18:25
How did you manage to keep your cool?
18:27
Yeah, well, I mean, I mentioned the physical aspect of it.

3:45
So what were the issues last time around?
3:48
The issues were that the FIG, the International Gymnastics Federation, didn't really understand the Good Friday Agreement that was put in place for athletes to compete for both Great Britain and Ireland or both.
4:08
And of course, when you're competing for North and Ireland, the International Gymnastics Federation license has to almost temporarily switch over to a UK license.
4:19
So there was just issue taken with that.
4:21
But now, thankfully, that's been squashed.
4:24
And now, hopefully for future games and for future generations as well, they don't have to go through what we went through in 2022.
4:33
And in terms of the injury, where are you with that? I'm feeling good.

12:54
And just finally, before we wrap up, how much does it burn inside you to reclaim that gold medal that you won in 2018?
10:43
getting speechless.
10:44
Yeah, no it is, it's cool because of course most of my awards I get are linked to my gymnastics achievements but this one it's nice that you're getting recognition for like the little side quests that you do in your journey.

10:55
Yeah absolutely, what was the first thought that popped into your head when you heard your name?
11:00
It's just great to be a part of an amazing evening with, again, like I say, recognition not just for people's achievements in sport, which they very much deserve, but also just the people that are the backbone of the community that also just add that little bit extra into the sporting world.
17:41
Every day in
17:42
training? Every single day.
17:43
Never one day I've come into the gymnastics gym and say, 100% success rate.
17:49
If I was doing that, I'm not pushing hard enough.
17:52
I'm not aiming high enough.
17:54
Every single day I feel it's something I'm very used to.
17:59
And yeah, I'm okay with saying that's a failure on that day, but inevitably it's going to be a success.
19:56
When you say figuring out what's in your head, how do you go about excavating that? Things
4:37
what plan did you put in place for maybe dealing with the success?
4:40
I think the reason that you do it is a big cause of how you feel afterwards.
4:47
And I remember thinking this on the podium almost, where it's a really, really small moment.
4:54
And I look back at the footage now, and it's literally only two seconds.
4:58
It's a little moment.
4:58
So I've got the medal around my neck.
5:02
burst into tears and then I stand up give a little cheese to the camera show the medal and then I take this little moment where I take a breath in and hold the gold medal to my head and it That's such an important moment for me, and this is a moment I made consciously because I wanted to just be present and really take it in.

couldn't have been that bad.
