Why did you specifically address it to the players?

Yeah, so this is primarily a letter of support to the players and we call them to act collectively with conscience because, as we state in the letter very clearly, the FAI, the Irish government, decision makers and our so-called leaders have completely failed them and they have just abdicated all responsibility and They have left them under a serious pressure.

There's massive scrutiny on them.

And we say they should never have been put in this position at all.

So this letter, both in its intent and tone, is a letter of support.

They shouldn't be in this position.

There's clear reasons for these decision makers to act.

I was quoting the football song, put them under pressure, but this will put these players, some of them very young players, you know, going out maybe for their first cap, would put them under huge pressure, won't it?

It's omnipresent for a lot of people and you do tend to get a... understanding of what's happening on the ground but that's not to say that everybody is like that so sometimes I think maybe people think that is the case that sports and politics should stay separate but how do you counter that point then?

Yeah well I think people want to believe that I think it's no it's absolutely false because politics or sports doesn't exist in a vacuum like there is no such thing as political neutrality in sport There's no such thing as political neutrality in anything.

And yes, they might not be attuned to world affairs or current events, but that's not to say politics doesn't exist in sport.

Because as I said, discriminatory structures and oppressive structures exist in sport.

It's a mirror of the society around them.

They exist in the context of the society.

So when people say sports and politics shouldn't mix, they're saying sports in a particular type of politics, because politics is very definitely in sports.

Is it going to be in Hungary or somewhere like that?
