The PYP in Australia: Where inquiry-based learning meets explicit teaching
11:20
15:48

Kathy SavilleHOST
So Rebecca, how then do you look at literacy and English and connect those elements authentically within units of inquiry? You've got some examples you can share?
11:38
But the first thing that we did was look at our unit of inquiry.
11:42
And it was how we express ourselves unit where the central idea was around people express and celebrate diversity.
11:52
So I sat down with the team and I said, okay, well, what literacy will children need to be successful to inquire into this and then to share their connection to this central idea? And it was really around recounts, oral recounts, being able to share the celebrations that are special and dear to their cultures and family.

Kathy SavilleHOST
So how did you actually roll this out across the school and what did that implementation journey look like?
