Does that change the way you think about this?
6:31
Absolutely, 'cause it, it shows not just Floridians, but also the rest of the country, where we stand on, i- in, in polarizing times like these, where we stand on the things that matter.
6:42
And when people are tearing us apart and trying to subset us into these subgroups of, you know, "Well, you could be this, but at least you're not this, and you could be..." They, they're trying to...
6:53
They understand the power that we have collectively when we come against something, and they are trying to break us up into these groups to, to, um, water down the power that we have.
7:03
And this is one of those moments where I feel very strongly about how, you know, the, the contemporary historical accounts like that talk about pro-slavery politics of Florida that we have seen in years past are just showing themselves again.
7:22
And I, I would caution us against oversimplifying the historical record by claiming, you know, that this is, you know, just something that we are paying an adage to our past.
7:33
This was exclusively at the time that it was introduced, a slavery slogan, and, uh, folks who have studied and, and, and, you know, some of our, the best historians across the country have described it as a, you know, a partisan slogan and an expression of resistance to outside interference, and that is troubling, especially when we see, you know, at best across this state, you know, we are infringing on the rights of local authorities.
10:10
Uh, your take on those.
