Breakdown
8:17
leads to breakthrough.
8:21
Yeah, sometimes we have to have kind of a breakdown or breakthrough.
8:23
So the biggest turning point for me in my life happened November 14th of 1989.
8:29
I was working in Redmond, Washington at one of my service shops, filling in for a service manager who was on vacation.
8:36
And a woman by the name of Maria came walking into my service shop to have the differential in her Toyota car repaired.
8:43
And I was just enamored with how calm and peaceful and happy she was.

11 MINS LATER

19:58
And
13:32
So when there's constant tension or mistrust, what could be that cause? And what can that reveal from the person at the top?
13:42
Holy cow.
13:42
It's a deep question.
13:44
I believe that 100 percent of the problems in the team that irritate us.
13:49
we as the leader need to address.
13:50
Now we still need to have procedures and boundaries and disciplinary plans and all those things still have to happen.
13:56
But if it irritates us, if we have an emotional response to it, then it's an indicator of something in ourselves that we can look at.
16:42
after working with so many leaders, executives, what is a common thread or a common pattern that you repeatedly see in highly successful people that they sometimes may not recognize themselves?
MarkHOST
9:52
Mm
9:52
... about their, their actual logistical challenges in life today, and we take a piece of paper, and, and we draw three lines.
10:01
We, we split it into four columns, and the first column is what's the problem? Is it, um, that somebody isn't showing up on time? Is it a problem with a vendor? Is it...
10:11
Whatever it is, what's the problem? Second column is what is the logical solution? And all this, even th- working through the emotions, I still go back to logic and reason.
10:21
That's what I work from always.
10:23
I'm a scientist.
10:23
Okay, so first column is what's the problem.
MarkHOST
14:06
I know you're itching to get in.
7:34
Can you expound on that? What do you mean?
7:37
Absolutely.
7:37
So everything in the universe fits into one of three categories in no particular order.
7:42
Our thoughts and information, our physical body and the physical world, and our emotions.
7:47
Okay, so we'll go backwards from there.
7:50
Emotions are bigger than time and space.
7:51
Emotions do not change over time.

11 MINS LATER

19:12
And how does the emotions that we bring into this team, how are we going to function as a team? We're trying to get a job done.
13:26
So why do so many successful people finally reach this summit and then they only realize they still don't feel complete?
13:33
Because we don't have any examples that tell us what it is to be a balanced human being.
13:38
And we're also taught that if we allow our emotions to get in the way, we're not going to be successful.
13:45
Now, emotions getting in the way and being aware of our emotions is two different things.
13:50
Let's go back to as men anyway, and in junior high and high school.
13:54
As we're trying to figure out the world and our place in the world, in junior high, for example, we're now in a new environment where all the boys are trying to figure out who's strong and who's weak.
14:05
Because if I can make somebody else look weak, then I'm going to look strong.
15:45
that's that's so on and it goes back to the to the this theme and thread that we're talking about randy of of healing right and when we talk about leadership and healing and this concept like your team can only heal as fast as you do as a leader right like it's it's a collaborative effort so I mean, how often are leaders unwillingly, unknowingly creating these behaviors that they're trying to eliminate, whether it's a lack of trust, poor judgment, burnout, disengagement? How do we bring it all? How do we tie ourselves to the business and heal together as a company? That's not an easy task.
7:00
with analytical leaders, with those scientists out there as entrepreneurs? How do you reconcile that?
7:05
I'm going to try and answer this as succinctly as I can.
7:09
So first, as a scientist, I break things into categories.
7:12
So everything in the universe fits into one of three categories, our thought and information, our physical body and the physical world around us, and our emotions.
7:21
Our emotions are bigger than time and space.
7:24
Our physical body is right now our emotions come through our physical body in the present moment, and our mind is never in the, our thinking mind is never in the present moment.
7:35
So if I want to deal with old emotional wounds, which are bigger than time and space, and let that energy out of my beingness so that it's not attracting, and here's where some of the physics come in, through harmonic resonance, I attract my reality to me.

7 MINS LATER

14:55
Do you mind sharing a story where unresolved emotion was a hidden bottleneck in leadership or culture of profitability? Could be a client story, unnamed, of course, but it was a case study.
1:01
This is Cedric Francis and you're listening to Lead to Greatness.
1:11
I am Randy Lyman.
1:12
Some people call me the spiritual cowboy.
1:15
I'm actually educated as a physicist.
1:18
I'm a engineer with multiple patents and I've been a business owner since 1982.
1:22
But since 1989, the main focus of my life has been on personal growth and a special focus on emotions human emotions and and how we're all emotional how we all have some level of trauma that we can release and how by addressing and embracing the emotional side of the human experience we can improve our lives and the lives of everyone around us i'll go back to who i was 36 years ago and i thought that if i was just smart and i worked hard And I gave clear direction.
1:57
Then I could build a great company and have all kinds of success.

19 MINS LATER

20:45
What does emotions has to do with any of that?
4:52
And how can people connect more to that aspect of their emotions like you were talking about?
5:01
Well, for me, I'm still left brain.
5:03
I'm, I'm very aware of my emotions, and emotions are, to me, the most important part of life, but I still approach life from a left brain logical point of view.
5:12
And what I really suggest and what works for me is write down the outside world, the problems we see in the outside world, outside of us.
5:20
Then write down, we can do multiple columns, however it works.
5:23
Then write down, okay, so this outside problem, how is this affecting me? And then if we can get to the deeper level of how does this feel? What does this feel like? How is this really bothering me, and, and what's that feel like? Then we can get closer to understanding and releasing the underlying emotions.
5:42
And for me, uh, emotions are really the key to showing up calm and confident and caring and compassionate if I'm a leader.
9:52
And for people who also wanna dive into this spiritual essence of connecting to emotional intelligence in business, how can they do that, and what kind of measurable things can they expect to see shift?
3:25
So what do you think, why do you think that happens so often to high achievers?
3:33
Two different things.
3:33
One is it's just messy and painful.
3:36
And our mind, our thinking mind, our ego, which we all need ego.
3:40
We don't want to kill the ego.
3:41
We want to partner with our higher self through our intuition and our emotional self through the child self that's still alive, that's creative and joyful and all those things.
3:49
So the mind says that I'm going to protect you from everything except pain.

16 MINS LATER

19:36
So I want you to unpack that for us right now.
5:36
So let's get into what I had on here is one of my notes is what is your explanation of the law of attraction? How does it work? How do we get better at attracting the things we desire, personal or career?
5:46
The law of attraction is creating our reality instant to instant.
5:52
And if you look back to two experiments that were run 99 years ago, or one was an experiment, one was theory.
5:57
So first of all, the double slit experiment where they shot individual electrons or individual protons at two slots individually.
6:08
The energy went through these slots, and on the backside, they hit a photographic target, like a piece of film.
6:14
And it was all covered up in the dark, and they're shooting these individual pieces of energy at the target, and they separate, and they go through the two slits like a wave would, and they re-engage in the backside like a wave would.
6:26
Well, then they took the lid off this experiment, and they washed it with human eyes without touching anything.

5 MINS LATER

11:45
Tackling that bias starts with recognizing that emotional awareness is a skill, not a liability.
3:29
I'd love for you to talk a little bit maybe about your journey or some of the things you've learned along the way to help with this process.
3:37
Well, I can tell you for sure, it's never easy.
3:39
It's not always fun.
3:40
It's usually messy, but it's absolutely always worth it.
3:42
So as I worked through my negative emotions and I became more clear and calm in the present moment and was able to interact with the world, especially the people I worked with, from a better perspective, then I achieve more success.
3:58
But what I realized a couple years into my spiritual journey was that nothing is random.
4:05
And the law of attraction, as physics explains now, and we can get into possibly, every moment is created for us.
9:04
If we're experiencing these emotions and you mentioned one of these 14 exercises that you can do, would you mind maybe sharing a couple others that might be worth sharing or talking about to give an idea of some of these other things that you can work through?
9:20
Some of us have to work a lot harder at it to continually just stay in check and to be able to deal with things in a healthy way.
9:28
I would agree with that.
9:29
And it starts with us.
9:30
And then the next thing I really worked on after I started to find clarity was how do I communicate differently with people and how do I acknowledge the people around me? And so I learned through an intervention that somebody took me through in 1997.
9:48
1996 or 97.
9:49
No, actually it was 99.
9:51
Here we go.

5 MINS LATER

14:52
wanting them to succeed versus you're more controlling more punitive in nature uh and you know more more negative in how you approach them right
BasilHOST
13:05
Sure.
13:05
And when I wanted somebody to perform better, if you go back f- g- 40 years ago, I would, I would push them with criticism.
13:14
Now, that's completely wrong, but it worked for me, so I just thought, well, my way of responding to the world, everybody else is gonna respond the same way.
13:21
Because I had my own unique emotional wounds.
13:24
When somebody criticized me, I wanted to overachieve, so I was willing to look at myself and find ways to improve.
13:30
Well, people are not open to criticism.
13:33
They want praise, and they want cr- constructive criticism that's brought to them in a way that's compassionate.
BasilHOST
17:48
Okay.
7:43
And where, you know, how you've kind of learned and what you do differently and the kind of results you feel like you're getting differently, differentially now.
7:51
Well, if I go back 40 years ago, I was motivated out of the fear of not being enough.
7:57
I wanted to overachieve to get my family's approval and to get their approval from the world because I just thought that was the only way.
8:05
And so I responded to criticism.
8:07
Okay, I'll take this as a positive thing and I can get better.
8:10
Most people don't respond well to criticism.
8:13
if we're able to give praise and acknowledgement, and then maybe a little constructive criticism, then we can help them.

10 MINS LATER

17:58
Yeah.
10:52
I've got some follow-up thoughts on that.
10:54
And so what we experience is in the present moment through our physical body in the way that energy, it's all just energy.
11:01
This is all an illusion.
11:03
This is all a matrix in a way.
11:05
This is all a computer simulation.
11:07
I experience in the moment what the law of attraction co-creates for me based on the resonance with my thoughts, resonance with my physical body, which is real obvious, and then resonance with my emotions, which are bigger in time and space.
11:21
So if I have unhealed emotions from two days ago or 30 years ago, that energy that I didn't feel completely, that was a valid guidance system in the moment started moments past.

10 MINS LATER

21:18
How do you rectify that?
11:05
And so I would love for you to talk about what is the value in being able to interpret your emotions and what do you do with them? And why would you do it?
11:15
Well, that's one reason I wrote the book, The Third Element, is I share a lot of my story in there about how one step at a time, I tried different things in my life.
11:25
Now, it's not written with a business intent, but everything I write in there does absolutely apply to a business leader's life.
11:33
So I had to look at what emotions were I avoiding? And we believe that if we just turn off our negative emotions, our worry, our frustration, our anger, whatever that might be, that we can just turn off those negative emotions.
11:47
But the challenge is we turn off the positive emotions as well.
11:50
Emotions, the switch, the Pandora's box, so to speak, has one lid.
11:54
You open it up and it's all there.

14 MINS LATER

25:43
And so I would love to know from you, what is the third element? And why do you believe that it is the missing piece in leadership, manifestation, and in fulfillment?
17:03
Mm.
17:03
Well, we're all human, and no matter how much I tried to use my mind to stay focused on the plan and, and work hard to get the job done, my emotions still were finding their way into how I was showing up.
17:20
And as I explained in my book, "The Third Element," the world is co-created for us by law of attraction every moment of every day, and quantum physics is starting to realize this now.
17:30
So the, the world that's created for me is in response to the vibration of my thoughts, the vibration of my actions, and the vibrations of my unhealed emotions.
17:40
My current emotions, but also my unhealed emotional wounds, which are bigger than time and space.
17:45
So once I had a huge release at a business communication retreat around not being, um, a- accepted by my family, and I tried to overachieve to become competent to get their approval.
18:00
Well, I was having issues in my business of people who were not competent, and I was trying to solve those by looking at the mirror, and I thought the mirror of me was only my thoughts and only my actions.
