Yeah
28:03
... um, what's happening in Congress.
28:05
And that sometimes we forget, like, there's a lot you can do locally.
28:09
At the end of the day, um, your basic human needs functions, healthcare, uh, police, fire department, um, government services, it's all done locally.
28:19
And what that means is that those are leverage points.
28:22
Those are leverage points to say, "Hey, um, we actually don't have a responsibility to, um, you know, enforce the nation's immigrations law here at the local level in whatever city or state, um, that you're in, and it's not lawful to, um, you know, be threatening our citizens in our communities."
29:32
Mm-hmm.
29:32
Um, we just re- released, um, uh, what we're calling the Solidarity Guide for Protecting Immigrant Communities Against Authoritarianism, and it's a great, it's a great resource, and I wanna just throw a shout-out to, um, our senior organizer, Eliana Fernandez, who was the lead on that, on that resource.
35:57
So from where you sit at NILC, what does that actually look like at scale, turning individual voices into something with real leverage? Sure.
36:06
Yeah, I mean, it was, let me just first say, Shu Tascal's commentary, perspective, worldview was just so inspiring.
36:15
And it is hard sometimes when you're dealing with the rise of authoritarianism, both in the United States and globally, to find that silver lining, to find that hope.
36:26
And it's exactly the youth of the country who are rising up and really demanding change that give me that sense of hope and the drive to move forward.
36:35
And just to answer your question, I mean, I think we're seeing that with a lot of our partners on the ground, you know, all across the country who we are working with.
36:46
There are plaintiffs.
36:47
So they're much like Shuta Sky was doing, like suing the government to stand up for what's right.
39:53
What would you say? If you could do one thing right now, what would you recommend people do for them to take action right now for immigrant rights?
