Financing Venezuela’s Future in the Aftermath of Disaster
4:36
... you add a variable of complexity because the people you lean on, your protection specialist that knows about case management for people who may be victims of gender-based violence, your wash expert who knows about the hygiene kits and the, uh, you know, uh, tablets to be used for making water, uh, drinkable and safe, these are the people whose houses, whose families, whose friends have been affected by the earthquake.
4:58
So obviously, the, the first thing that comes to mind is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the team, and then stepping out of that, looking at, uh, looking at the, the damage, looking at the, uh, the, the crisis itself.
5:11
One of the first things we did was drive down to La Guaira, and you're used to seeing one, two, three buildings, but here we're talking about block after block of completely flattened buildings from all different socioeconomic strata.
5:26
You can drive 15 minutes in one direction and see these buildings looking at the beach, completely destroyed.
5:33
Right behind them, housing that was more, um, for the, uh, lower middle-class strata, completely destroyed.
5:40
And then you drive 30 minutes in the opposite direction, where you had public housing arrangements, and you have 200 houses, identical, uh, and again, some of them completely flattened, some of them burned down to nothing, and some of them leaning on the next house.

What was the situation in Venezuela before for your organization, and how, how did the earthquakes change this context in the country now?
