What do you feel, what do you notice, like, r-right away the biggest differences? Like, are they s- are their thesis statements different from, from the last one you did to this one that just came out this year?
18:36
Um, yeah.
18:37
I think the last one I did w- it was called Whitehorse Comes Rolling, and that was 2007.
18:42
I don't really know.
18:44
But that, you know, that was a record that I-- There was still, like, lots of queer people on it, like Alison Russell, and my friend Ana, Shera, and like then John Wood recorded in Vancouver.
18:52
That was done to tape, and it was kind of an accident because I just had the songs and I, I'd been playing so many shows live, right? So I think at that point I was in a momentum.
19:00
I was playing like 200 or more, 250 shows a year, you know.

29:36
Thanks.
17:39
When did you sort of begin to embrace your queer and trans identity? Like was there sort of like a triggering moment? Was it sort of like evolving?
17:50
I came out to, started coming out to friends when I was 15, maybe.
17:54
And that was really, really scary.
17:55
Like I remember, and it wasn't to like date any of them.
17:58
Do you know what I mean? Like, it was more like, no, no, no, no, don't worry.
18:00
I'm not like, you know, like, so, but that happened.
18:04
You know, I had bad experiences with someone who had been my best friend who had to then go around the whole school to tell everyone they're not gay.
21:12
What were the resources at the time? Were there, like you said, you knew a few people in Vancouver, but was there any other resources available?
0:00
Please welcome Rae Spoon.

[guitar playing] When I smell smoke, I think of you.
0:20
When I'm in traffic or my hotel room.
0:26
People smoke less these days, but you are everywhere.
0:35
You're what I crave.
0:40
I don't know when you'll light your last cigarette.
0:45
You always say that you're leaving as soon as you put it out.
