And like there's one or the other, like, I don't know which one it is, but it's one of those two.

I don't know, I think that just such a disconnect there between the fact that cannabis and the movement of cannabis has been born out of that sort of peace, love, connection, community.

The fact that one of the names that we call cannabis is Mary Jane.

It's the female plant that is the fruits of the labour of cannabis.

You know, there's so much femininity around cannabis itself.

And I appreciate that you talk about using that and the femininity of the plant to really go deeper internally as well and have some self-reflection, have some time.

I really feel as though we would see a shift in Australian culture when we do legalize.

I would have always thought that was such a hippie thing for me to say, like 20-year-old me wouldn't have believed in that free love man kind of thing, but it's where I'm at now.

What's the relationship been with that MP, you know, in terms of a lot of the legislation and discussions? How's that gone?

Yeah, and I mean, I think the benefit of being a crossbencher is that you do have a lot more opportunity.

So you get a couple of debate spots a year.

I would say, look, Rikki Lee Tyrrell is a really lovely person.

I engage with her.

We always have open dialogue, but she doesn't really follow party policy when it comes to things around medicinal cannabis and support there.

One Nation have a pretty robust policy position on medicinal cannabis and how it should be supported.

Yeah.

So interestingly, this sort of all started with me having a meeting with police command to say, can we look at ways that we can just stop arresting 4,000 Victorians on average per year just for small possession of cannabis? and the police weren't really forthcoming with saying well we've changed our policy position in september 2024 they updated the police operations manual to say that cautioning should be the standard practice when coming across someone who is in possession of cannabis they've expanded out the eligibility criteria so most people who are picked up should be eligible for a caution and there's they've removed the limitations around how many cautions you could be issued However, when you look at the crime stats data, it shows that we are still issuing about 48% of people who are picked up for cannabis possession.

48% are getting an arrest and only 37% are getting a caution.

So we sort of went, well, what's happening here? Yeah.

Interestingly, you know, there's no requirement for the police to, I mean, they should be keeping up to date with each change that happens in the manual.

They have access to it.

But us as the public and stating that it is a public document, it's really hard for us as the public to have access.

Is that going to change how you think you approach this time round compared to what you did at the last election?
