Is AI strengthening teacher-ness or changing what it means to be a teacher?
1:16
Thank you very much for the question.
1:17
Basically, I think both.
1:20
So on the strengthening part, I believe that since AI has been taking up some of the repetitive work that teachers usually do, that gives as teachers, I include myself as a teacher, that gives teachers room and opportunity to engage, I believe, deeper and higher order thinking about teaching and pedagogical planning.

And in terms of changing it, what it means to be a teacher, I think it's because exactly because AI has set into the play in the ecology of preparing for a class, then we have to actually reference ourselves, I mean, to the impact of the AI so that some part of the teaching job can emphasize and make more salient.

while we're preparing for our maybe teaching material and planning for the lesson.
2:20
And one example would be that our own experience with our students and our understanding of our students becomes more important because AI doesn't have that experience and knowledge so far.

So as an English professor, my next question is could generative AI standardize English and marginalize diverse accents and varieties?
