When you say India's food heritage is disappearing, what exactly are we losing? Is it simply crop varieties, or is there a much larger story behind it?

That's an interesting question, Shreya.

So when the food heritage is disappearing, we lose much more than crop varieties.

What we lose is living knowledge system that evolved over centuries.

The traditional crops that were there were adapted to local soils, rainfall patterns, were immune to the pest attacks, and also the livelihoods and cultural practices of the people.

They were part of an ecosystem that worked with nature rather than against.

How do you view its legacy today? What did it solve, and what challenges did it unintentionally create?
