Nice work, Vance.

This fellow I'm holding gave me no trouble at all.

Oh, that was no trouble, Markham.

Hitting my friend was fun.

Let's get him up, get him out of here.

And I'll be ready to tell you why Professor Wilson insisted that his nails be done even though he knew he was done for.

Markham, my friend, I'm beginning to believe you're a very persuasive young man.

Could I persuade you to get around to telling me why Professor Wilson wanted his nails machined?

I've wasted enough time getting these three people up to your apartment.

A moment more won't hurt, Heath.

Now please, everyone, look at this knife.

It's Arabian.

The handle is of ivory, and the blade's solid steel.

I've selected this knife because it closely resembles the one used to kill Danny Claxton.

Now, for the purpose of this experiment, I need an assistant, someone to pose as the murderer.

Well, Vance, you did it again.

Still holding the gun, too.

Yeah, look around the apartment, Heath.

And while you're at it, you might look around for another suspect who had as good a motive and opportunity to kill Mr. Zachary as the late David Douglas.

[instrumental music] This is District Attorney Markham.

The Coachman murder case opened when millionaire sportsman J. Morton Zachary was found dead in his swimming pool, a fishing knife in his heart, and a rod and reel and hook complete with Coachman fly attached to him.

Philo Vance has been to see both Zachary's widow and a Mr. Hastings, who has taken over the murdered man's business interests, and who told Vance of an impending merger between Zachary and one William Bartlett, whom Zachary had never met.

One of our men, Sergeant Heath, has just reported that Mrs. Zachary, who has not been detained by the police, has just had a visitor.
