Yeah.
38:13
And so I know this one is not then super actionable for everyone, but hey, are you the person that, like, takes big risks, that does something out of the box? Because all of that stuff will lead to better stories.
38:27
And so yes, you can take an average moment and tell it in a very interesting way, which I oftentimes do as well.
38:32
But then the, the other thing is as well, if you wanna become an incredible storyteller and you wanna inspire millions, well, does your current lifestyle, your actions actually allow for that? And just so that, to give you one idea, my goal is to s- speak on stage with Tony Robbins.
38:49
And now I'm...
38:51
I was thinking this year, "Okay, how am I gonna do this?" And I realized, like, all the things, how I could get there would not result in anything.
38:59
But I then thought, "Okay, what are the things that I could do differently?" And so I sat down with my team, and we brainstorm a bunch of weird ideas.
43:07
Tell me about your journey there.
4:28
Um, what do you think, therefore, are the essential elements that he did need in this story to make sure that it did build tension?
4:37
Mm-hmm.
4:39
He uses mini hooks throughout the story that sell the rest of the story.
4:45
And so, for example, right at the start he says, "Hey, the craziest thing happened to me at a soccer match in Argentina." Boom.
4:53
That, without having said anything about the story, that immediately gets us, ooh, okay, craziest thing, I need to listen.
4:58
And so he uses that, those mini hooks throughout.
5:01
And so, for example, second time he said, "Hey," he, I know he's just talking to his uncle, right? And then his uncle said, "Okay, yes, we can go, but no wives and no children." And again, [laughs] you're thinking, whoa, what crazy stuff is going to happen in this game? And so what I would encourage you to do is think throughout your story, how can I have those mini moments that anticipate or sell the stuff that is about to come?

20 MINS LATER

25:12
Could you just take listeners through how that works?
37:26
What else makes a story memorable? Is it just having that big surprise that's going to get people's attention or is there something else there?
37:33
One fundamental thing in storytelling is stakes.
37:36
And that is, what do you have to win or lose in a specific situation? If you want people to care about your story, share that.
37:44
And so how can you do that? There are a few things.
37:47
One is you share the goal upfront.
37:51
Most stories, they should have some sort of mission behind it where it's like, hey, I want to do that.
37:56
And right when you share that goal upfront, people will be like, okay, now I better listen to that.
39:30
So is there a general framework? What can we do from the public speaking side to improve ourselves?
0:46
But what I'm going to ask you to do, please, is to share with our listeners your top three storytelling do's and your top three storytelling don'ts.
0:57
All right.
0:59
Let's start with don'ts.
1:00
All right.
1:01
So, first one is don't make it too complex.
1:04
Okay.
1:05
Don't make it too complex.
4:35
But most importantly, tell us, what's the lesson that you would like our listeners to take away? Philip
