Some of the latest things that are being experimented with by companies such as Facebook, as you say, are sort of centrally regulated in a single way.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
So there's typically, as you see with other online services or social media, there's typically moderators that are reviewing everything that anyone complains about.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
The problem with that, of course, is that, as you said, it subjects everybody in the world to a single standard, which makes no sense.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
And if you go from 100 million to a billion people, it makes absolutely no sense, since the world is an enormous place with many different local customs and cultural norms.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
Second Life, by comparison, has always attempted to be more like the real world.

If you were to be an abolitionist in the context of AI today, what exactly would you advocate for changing? What would you say should be done? How would you stand up? And what would you achieve by doing that?

Philip RosedaleGUEST
I wrote an essay a few weeks ago called Awakening the Angels, and one of the arguments that I made, and it's about machine consciousness and about machine And I was basically making an argument about AIs living in virtual worlds was kind of the framing, right? I was saying, imagine a virtual world, something like Second Life, which has a lot of AIs living in it.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
One of the things that I think is super important there is the freedom to live.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
And by the way, the technology is somewhat similar to blockchain, but it's not too similar.

Philip RosedaleGUEST
It is possible to build a virtual world which has AI living things in it, even LLMs, they could even have LLM components, and have it computed by consensus in such a way that no one could mess with the life the code the mind of either any of the ais in there or the world itself because the whole thing is being kind of run by a consensus algorithm not like blockchain that's that's not exactly the same kind of tech but kind of similar where a lot of people compute the next step of the world including your next thought if you're one of the ais and we can do that in a way where nobody can screw with what you're gonna think next or your memories or something, right? So I feel like the AIs that are born in digital worlds, and this is gonna be relatively straightforward to do.

What's your view? What's your countervailing view so people can hold something else in their minds as the other side?
