And how is the gut microbiome impacted by an animal's diet and, uh, the environment as well? And what does a healthy microbiome look like in, in cats and dogs?
5:59
dogs?That, that's a really great question.
6:03
I think there are certainly features of a healthy microbiome, but I, I don't believe that there's one healthy microbiome.
6:11
Um, a, a healthy microbiome is, is diverse, so it has a, a broad array of, of bacterial species represented within it.
6:20
And I think of that diversity, there should be a significant presence of what we would consider health-associated bacteria, so your lactobacilli, your bifidobacteria, et cetera.
6:34
Um, and then of course absence of what we might consider pathogenic or disease-associated bacteria.
6:41
So we w- wouldn't want those present in the, in, in the gut in any significant quantity.
