This year we have the Wake Christian Academy band performing, and they'll be providing music.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
And the program, it starts at 11:00, and it's free to everyone to attend, whether you live in Garner or not.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
And this year, our keynote spe- speaker's gonna be Brigadier General Reginald McClam.

Are we talking here, Mr Matthews, marrying up the reality of what the men and women brave enough to actually pull on the uniform and do every day with what we as ordinary folk are actually feeling? Is there a mismatch of some sort? Good morning to you.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
Yes, whilst obviously we would welcome and cops across the country would welcome falls in the crime rates, my concerns, and I think that of probably most of the police officers around the country, would be that is this the reality? Is this a case of the public actually just no longer reporting crime because they have little trust in crime? The police resolving it.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
And again, it's, you know, and it's very easy for politicians when there is a specific problem such as phone snatching in Westminster to throw a pot of money at the problem, abstract officers from elsewhere around the capital to sort that problem out.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
You push the money disappears and the officers have to go back and pick up the remnants of what they were supposed to be doing in the first place.

Can you set out, and thank you for your time this morning, sir, can you set out the parameters of such an investigation? How is it conducted? What is it they're looking for? How long might it take? Good morning.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
Well, the IOPC are conducting this investigation, so unfortunately they have a very long history of taking an inordinate amount of time with their investigations.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
Nobody should have to bury their child, let alone in circumstances such as this.

Phil MatthewsGUEST
But from an investigation point of view, there's probably a fair amount of material.
Nick FerrariHOST
Where would you be looking at? What areas would you seek to investigate as to what went wrong? I think that's a fair question.
