Miles DanielsHOST
What is it about the Outer Banks that makes it such a draw for lots of the surfing competitions and surfers like yourself who choose to live here year round and take advantage of the swell?

Phil ClaytonGUEST
I think the waves for sure, as far as drawing surfers, you know, that first and foremost, but also the Outer Banks is unique in the way where kind of our surf season, certainly we can get like good days in the summer, right? But if you kind of look at the history of swells, you know, late August through September, October, November, Outer Banks kind of slows down during those times.

Phil ClaytonGUEST
So it's a place where people can come make a bunch of money in the summer working super hard.

Phil ClaytonGUEST
You know, everyone in the Outer Banks is super hard working from industry people to tourist related jobs.

[gentle music] Now, Phil is a journalist, a gardener, and a plantsman who works at The Manor Hemmingford Grey, where they grow a lot of bearded irises.

Phil ClaytonGUEST
[gentle music] Bearded irises are such a garden favorite and so special because they start to flower sort of in mid to late spring, and the blooms have got within them, I would suggest, every single color that you can imagine.
