I just wanted to give a quick thanks to, uh, my thesis advisor.

I just completed it a little over a year ago, Sarah Covington.

Um, and Alan Ford was on the, um, committee that I worked with, and he, uh, really encouraged a lot of the material that's in here that I'm presenting today.

So thanks to them.

Um, I think a lot of this stuff most of us in here are gonna be pretty familiar with, so I will try to keep things moving where it's, uh, you know, things that, uh, that, that people are familiar with.

The Church of Ireland Bishop, Dr. Henry Jones, whose dates are 1605 to 82, he was the son of an Oxford-educated Welshman, Lewis Jones, who came to Ireland around the turn of the 17th century.

A staunchly Protestant representative of the settler class, Lewis married Mabel Usher, sister of Archbishop James Usher, Church of Ireland primate and renowned scholar.

Their son, Henry, represented thus his father's newly arrived settler class in Ireland, as well as the long presence in Ireland of the Usher family, merchants, clerics, politicians.

Educated at Trinity College, Henry seemed to follow the path marked by his uncle.

But by his late 30s, he had for some time been dean of Kilmore and Cabin, serving under Bishop Bedell.

Aside from the influence of his uncle, Jones did not seem to be on the fast track to a prominent place in the Church of Ireland hierarchy.
