So is this the first time the DSA has made any demands of Mamdani since he took office? You followed that relationship closely.
6:30
It is not, but it is one of the first times.
6:34
Actually, the first time that NYC DSA made a demand of Mamdani was when, as part of his budget, he announced, along with Tisch, that they were going to add to the NYPD's budgeted headcount about 500 officers, which received a lot of pushback from DSA and other community groups like DESE's rising up and moving, they released a statement calling on Mamdani to reverse that, and Mamdani actually did so.

So the slight increase in budgeted NYPD headcount did not go through.
7:09
I would also say that there have been elements of New York City DSA that have been pushing for Mamdani to fire Tisch essentially since he took office.

You know, DSA is a big tent leftist group.
7:25
It is made up of numerous sort of smaller internal caucuses, some of which are more pragmatic, more accommodationist, others of which are more kind of hardline ideological.
11:09
And then, Peter, you know, why do you think that Mamdani kept on Tisch? And then can you talk a little bit about his stance on policing in general, going back to his candidacy for mayor and what he's promised her on the SRG?
