Removing PFAS from sewage in WWTP using SAFF with Peter Murphy EPOC Enviro Australia Ep 50
8:37

Kayleen BellHOST
What are some of the absolute highlights from your own research that make you passionate about your company pursuing this area of remediation?
P
8:52Peter MurphyGUEST
One we call SAF bio, which is really just trying to re-engineer the SAF system so that they can manage high sludge loads.
P
8:59Peter MurphyGUEST
So it's about changing the geometry of the tanks, for example, so that as sludge deposits in the base, you don't have a flat base, you've got a conical base and you've got high energy recirculation in those areas.
P
9:09Peter MurphyGUEST
lower areas so that you can recirculate the bottom of the tank to the top of the tank into the bubble zone again.
P

So we're just trying to make the air water interface connect with those fine phase materials in the mixture constantly so that we can affect good PFAS removal from that sort of complex medium.

The Bootstrap Founder Who Turned $1,800 Into Pocket Prep | Ep. 437 with Peter Murphy CEO of Pocket Prep
D
21:34Daniel RobbinsHOST
When you look, when you go backwards and you look, do you ever think about, like, should we have remained bootstrapped? Should we have raised money?
P
21:42Peter MurphyGUEST
So I think there's, there's different types of founders and different types of, like, risks, appetites and things like that, and if you can convince...
P
21:50Peter MurphyGUEST
If you have the network and you know people and you're around finance and you can go and raise money and you have a great idea and you believe in it, it's a different game that you're playing, right? So if you raise a million dollars for easy math, and you know that that'll carry you two years, that you can hire X amount of people and you can do these things and you have this timeline, you're basically signing up to have your own deadline.
P
22:09Peter MurphyGUEST
Like, we need to be profitable by, you know, two years from now, or we need to hit this milestone, then we can raise more money, right? But if you don't wanna do that or you're not sure or you're really just kind of growing with the flow is what I, what we call it at Pocket Prep, is just figuring out how to math your, you know, profit and loss or your income, whatever, so that you can continue to grow and reinvest the money without really taking on the outside risk.
P
22:30Peter MurphyGUEST
And that's, that we turn that $1,800 bootstrap investment into a multimillion dollar company and all these employees and all this great stuff, and I, I do, I think about what if, what if someone had given us like, like Shark Tank, a million dollars for 20% of your business? Like, I, I think we'd still be successful.
D
27:34Daniel RobbinsHOST
Do you look at them as, "Okay, this has to fit into my values, and if not, then no matter how lucrative it'll be, we can't do it"?

If you can tell us where your career journey started, where everything started for you, what happened over the way, and where are you now?
P

And before that, I actually got started in manufacturing in aerospace, which was really cool.
P
3:17Peter MurphyGUEST
It was a dream job out of college, learning how all the parts came together, how they build aircrafts and targeting systems and lasers and all sorts of really neat stuff.

#525 Peter Murphy: How did two 299s become 40 employees?
P
0:12Peter MurphyGUEST
I think when you think about success, what does success mean to you? Not necessarily what your parents think success means for you or the world thinks success means for you.
P
0:20Peter MurphyGUEST
What do you want? What are you fighting for? What gets you out of bed in the morning? My name is Peter Murphy.
P

And I started my business 15 years ago because I failed too many times and I couldn't stand it.
