Can you, like, how would you describe your relationship with Dean? Like, friends? Always professional? Somewhere in the middle? Like, what was that like? I think...
16:13
Somewhere in the middle, I really liked Dean and I think he really liked me.
16:17
Like we definitely connected.
16:20
I mean, when you're filming this sort of stuff, you're, you know, first of all, you're building a trust about being up there, you know, in these dangerous things together and that, you know, you're not going to like, blow the vibes or like do something dangerous and stuff.
16:35
So I think, and then for Dean, even more so than, than many athletes, he's, you know, he goes through such a process to actually achieve these things.
16:45
And so it's not just like you're in and you're out like, okay, show up on Friday and film something and then, you know, take off.
16:52
It's like, you're there and the, the, there's, you just go on the journey with them.

I don't actually understand it.

I mean, one in a million athletes,
0:24
visionaries, you know, super, these guys are all amazing climbers.
0:28
They're also, you know, super bold climbing.
0:31
That's what they're known for, whether it's free solo rock climbing, free solo alpinism, you know, speed soloing, um, with Dean, he was also, you know, soloing high lines, you know, walking across, you know, lines untethered across formations and, um, you know, wingsuit base jumping and base jumping.
0:51
And, um, but they're also unique too.
0:54
I mean, I think, I think Mark Andre and Alex were more, um, were more, um, I think there were more, in some ways, like I think Dean, um, uniquely from those guys had a lot of fear and he really like had to really push himself to do the things that he did i think alex is hyper analytical and you know he said if he can do something 10 times with a rope on then he's like just logically he's not gonna fall like he feels like he can do it so he's not gonna get nervous if he's doing it without without a rope and Marc Andre was just like a free spirit roaming in the mountains.
1:33
And he was kind of born, you know, up in Canada and his mom cut him pretty loose to go just like have all day adventures in the mountains.

Not based on technical stuff.

I'd love to know a little bit more about you guys, your filmmaking background that brought you to this point that I suppose that made you feel you were the right ones to tell this story, both in terms of the sport itself, but also this very kind of nuanced character.
8:17
Yeah.
8:18
We, um, so we met Dean in like 2006, so he was already sort of had risen onto the scene as this new force.
8:26
And you know, we, um, I grew up, I'm still in Boulder, Colorado, which is like one of the climbing capitals of the United States.
8:34
So I'd been really immersed in climbing.
8:36
I got into it in middle school, and I just like always loved the climbing culture.
8:41
And when I started making films later, I gravitated towards, towards climbing.

I probably woke up, you know, you know, sweating and, um, and perhaps relieved that that wasn't the case.
