bit or yeah sure yeah how clear is it then genesis one because it does seem like if you look at the landscape of christianity today that you know there are people of sincere faith even sincere reformed faith as you mentioned who would differ on how the the principles of the sabbath or the sunday play out today so maybe walk us through a little bit i guess how you see it rooted in creation there in genesis
10:56
yes so i'm just going to get my bible yeah um in in genesis that's actually the beginning of genesis 2 is where we have the the reference to the day of rest i think some of the the problem comes in where in the fact that the the name sabbath or the word sabbath does not occur in genesis 2. it occurs for the first time in the book of exodus right first exodus 16 and then later in the ten commandments but here in genesis 1 the lord says thus the heavens sorry this is genesis 2 verse 1 thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them and on the seventh day god finished his work that he had done and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done so god blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it god rested from all his work that he had done in creation so is this the sabbath day that later is incorporated into the ten commandments that's sort of the fundamental issue there are people scholars who say no this is not the sabbath day because the the word sabbath doesn't occur and it's something other but I think if you look at those two verses and think about what's being said there, it's not hard to see that the seventh day is made something special from all the other days of the week.
12:21
This is actually the crowning work of God's creation.
12:25
For six days he creates, and then we have this announcement that his creating work is finished.
12:33
And God could have, if you just pause over that for a moment, God could have just left Why does God need to rest? And he doesn't, right? We know that.
12:41
So God could have left the week at six days.
12:44
We could have just had a six-day work week and just one day after the other, we just work, work, work.

14 MINS LATER

26:46
in deuteronomy when the law is repeated again it's more more so rooted in the redemption from egypt yes now why the change in focus there and what implications does that have for the fourth commandment in this context
