How is virtual care currently being utilised in palliative care to bridge the gap for rural or isolated patients?

Paul TaitGUEST
It's actually been used in a whole lot of ways that might be invisible to the pharmacist actually.

Paul TaitGUEST
So my current role, I work in a virtual care service which is statewide urgent virtual care service which was set up four years ago really with the idea to try and offer an alternative option for people needing urgent care but are not so unwell that they have to go to an emergency department and to try and take the pressure off emergency departments and so what we find is we get a lot of calls from aged care nurses who have some concerns about their patient or resident under their care.

Paul TaitGUEST
And some of that might be to do with palliative care needs, but other it might be more of an acute care situation like a fall and missed medicines and so forth.

Paul TaitGUEST
And so that they dial in with a video conference and so they will have the resident with them alongside them and the specialist can actually eyeball not just the nurse, but the resident.

Paul TaitGUEST
And sometimes there's a case of, particularly if the family members need to be engaged, You know, they might not be in the same place and so they might not even be in the same town or city.

Paul TaitGUEST
So it's a case of being able to dial them in, which has led to some amazing and some wonderful insights into how we can do better healthcare.

Paul TaitGUEST
do you think about the finish about his run? Because what have I been saying all last season about getting across the front post? If he misses it, then your next player comes in and the goalkeeper can't see what is actually happening.

Paul TaitGUEST
You don't see in the game these days, you know, the forwards getting across the defender and we should see more of it.

Paul TaitGUEST
How many times do our supporters watch a game or any supporters when the ball comes into the box and the defender just clears it and the centre forward is standing behind, you know, on the penalty box or the penalty spot.

Paul TaitGUEST
And the goal that he did score was fantastic for him and for me, because I've been saying that all that season.
