How important is the American market to Ontario wines?
11:36
It's, it's, it's really not a huge part of our overall sales.
11:42
For Henry of Pelham, we, uh, ship a, a lot of premium, you know, Speck family reserve, our sparkling wines, ice wine.
11:51
Uh, and it's really small volumes of very high-end wines for us, so- You know, it, it's, these are wines that you lead to try and build the market over time, leading with quality and, you know, high-end restaurants and whatnot.
12:06
But the volumes are not dramatic.
12:08
So it, it, it, it disrupts a lot of work that we've done as we sort of over a long period of time try to build a presence in the US.
12:17
This will disrupt it or kill it for, for ev- for a while.
14:01
What kind of effect do the inter-provincial tariffs and restrictions have on you?
2:35
What would this allow you to do that could make your business bigger and stronger?
2:39
Well, it's actually something we've been working on as an industry for over 20 years.
2:45
and what makes it so exciting for us is in most provinces we have to sell wine through the liquor boards and so they have limited shelf space for us so they can only bring in certain amounts of our wines and what direct the consumer allows us we'll still continue to work with all the liquor boards across Canada but we'll be able to ship directly to people's houses And it really is about selling our most premium, our reserve wines, our spec family reserve, our estate wines.
3:19
Those are the wines that are, you know, small production.
3:24
They win all the awards all over the world and they're hard to get.
3:28
And generally, that's what people are interested in ordering.
3:40
It's literally very difficult for you, for Joe Schmoe in Alberta to buy a case of that premium one you talked about up until the change.
3:47
Yes, it's been completely illegal to ship directly to consumers.
19:18
Are you, are you noticing this impact at Henry of Pelham Winery?
19:24
Currently, we haven't.
19:25
Um, we ...
19:26
I had an event, a dinner actually, on Wednesday night with some customers that was supposed to be on one of our outdoor patios.
19:36
And we moved it inside, uh, because, you know, we ... people were may- a little concerned about the smoke and just felt more comfortable.
19:45
So other than that, uh, actually we had a very good day yesterday, and this weekend we actually have oyster weekend and, uh, music and, and all kinds of events going in.
19:57
And at the end of the day, uh, we want people to be safe, so we have a, a, a, a beautiful building built in 1852 where, uh, it's all restored and you can sit inside.
23:02
How have you been impacted, I understand quite positively, by the, uh, ban that Doug Ford put on alcohol products coming out of the USA?
