Can you tell us more about that and other stories of this storm that help help us understand what people here really went through that night?
25:38
Well, it was horrifying, and it did reach out as far as Moorhaven and areas that are within a spitting distance of Lake Okeechobee.

There was a tremendous amount of flooding, and that was a preview of what was going to come in 1928 in that area when that dam did break, I mean, in a big way and drown an estimated somewhere around 2,000 people.

But the scale of the hurricane, I'm not saying it was a big bodied hurricane, but it just touched so much, it hit the northern gables, it inundated Miami Beach, washed around things all around the future Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami, hit Hialeah really hard, for example, hit Buena Vista, they didn't call it a design district then.

hit a little river part of little haiti today i mean its scope and scale was so large and it just caught people and the most dramatic part sadly so or those people that got caught after they came out when that eye was passing over and there was a calmness and people thought it was over you know we just want to assess what's happened

How did this event perhaps help bring Miami together as a city and a community, especially since, as I mentioned, the storm perhaps helped bring on the Great Depression here three years before it started for the rest of the country?
29:49
Well, it really spoke to Miami's resilience, too.

The cleanup, if you will, the reconstruction after the hurricane was really admirable, and it moved quickly.
