John, you have to tell your story of how you met Greg at your audition.
1:56
Oh, yeah.
1:56
When I met Greg, this is in New York before I did the test that we were talking about before.
1:59
But when I was auditioning in New York, there were like seven actors auditioning, and six of them went in, you know, separately.
2:07
And then for some reason, it stopped at me, and the casting director was like, "We're gonna take a five-minute break for lunch.
2:11
Is that okay?" And I said, "Yeah," but in my head I was kind of thinking, "No, just do one more [laughs] for 10 minutes." And then in through the front door came a guy with a salad, who sat down across from me on a couch, and he was like, "Are you nervous?" And I said, "Not so much for the audition, but I'm really nervous for the people who are making this show because so often these translations are just such garbage.
2:30
And I, and I really hope that, uh, they don't screw it up because so many people are waiting to kill this show." And Greg Daniels said, "I'll try my best." And I said, "Who are you?" And he goes-
2:41
[laughs]
13:46
How did it come about that you were on the show?
13:50
Well, I had worked with, uh, Greg Daniels, um, before and known him a very long time, and we did King of the Hill together.
13:57
And when they started the show, I, you know, I stopped by the pilot.
14:02
You know, I had nothing to do with the pilot, but I stopped by a few days, and it was, um, I just kind of loved what was happening, and it was...
14:10
You know, I, I love the British.
14:12
And so then when it got picked up, um, I was, I was psyched that he asked me to come on.
14:19
So this was, like, kind of a, a very traditional thing that writers and actors are kind of separated on a TV show, you know, and they're kind of asked not to talk.

6 MINS LATER

20:54
How did that work?
54:23
Oh.
54:24
And then I asked a bunch of other people who seemed to like it and who were around at the time, uh, including a couple of writer's assistants, and Danny, and B.J., and Halsted, and they seemed to think it was mine.

9 MINS LATER

63:31
Is you have to break the fourth wall and say the writers wouldn't do that.
63:37
Well, okay, if you weren't breaking the fourth wall, then you would just, you say it's too unlikely.
63:42
This is like an Occam's razor kind of thing.
63:44
Like, no, the most likely thing is generally the truth, where the guy convicted is guilty of the thing.
