What impact could this have on its use in the healthcare setting?
21:34
That's a great question.
21:35
We know that, of course, the AI algorithms are only as good as the data they train on.
21:41
And if you insert bias at that level, you'll get bias in the algorithms.
21:45
And we know there are areas like where AI is used for diagnosis of skin lesion.
21:51
the AI is trained on white skin and doesn't perform as well on skins of different shades.
21:57
And so those things are really understood as risks.

28:49
the ideal panelist.
28:47
You're the ideal, [laughs] the ideal panelist.
28:51
Well, I think it, it's going to make a truly massive difference here.
28:54
It's one of the areas that's gonna be, uh, used early.
28:58
I'll give you two examples.
29:00
In the pandemic, it was possible to get vaccines very quickly because of the way that the new technologies had come along with messenger RNA and so on.
29:08
Just a few weeks ago, groups were showing that you can use AI to predict how to make vaccines that won't just tackle one specific variant of a virus, but could actually broaden that to tackle a whole range, 'cause it could look at all of the possible ways in which that virus was going to mutate, and think about what the, um, immunogenic stimulus would look like that you'd have to go after with a vaccine.
29:33
So you can see how for predicting what you need, it's gonna be good.

Where do you see the role of AI in future du- drug discovery? How well can a model built in a digital world really translate into the biolo- biological environment where cellular activity is far messier and more complex than any, any existing model can fully capture?
15:01
And do you think that there are therefore areas in science and tech where we as the UK have a genuine competitive advantage, but we're under investing in it? Like, are there areas where we should be investing more because we are the leaders in it to get that commercial growth as well?
15:19
It's pretty interesting.
15:20
I got a note actually from a well-known venture capitalist in the UK called Saul Klein.
15:24
He put out a series of things to me saying, a lot of this is very clear.
15:29
This is evidence, not optimism, was his words.
15:31
He sent me the same note.
15:34
I think he sent it everywhere.

How do we provide a financial infrastructure That means that the maximum returns as these companies grow flow to the UK in terms of revenue, taxes, jobs, and the rest.
