So bear with me, but there is some precedent for this kind of monopsony A-list, um, screenwriter talent case.

So when Penguin Random House tried to buy Simon & Schuster back in twenty twenty-two, the DOJ was able to bro- to block the deal.

And the court agreed with DOJ that combining two of these five, these big five book publishers would harm competition in the market for anticipated top-selling books, and more specifically, it would cause harm to author payments due to reduced competition.

So in that case, though, the relevant market was not all books, but a narrower segment where buyers competed for these marquee works.

So we can see that if we apply that, a similar framework here, there's at least a plausible claim for s- for the few screenwriters that compete for these wide-release films.

Now, proving this concept, like you said, is very tricky, and I would guess that if, if the Writers Guild are gonna try to do so, they'll have to follow a paradigm very similar to what Penguin-- uh, the DOJ did in Pengu- Penguin Random House, excuse me.
