And so I'm wondering what, what you can tell us about the scope and the methodology of this research that really makes it different from the prior lawyer mental health research, and could you give us some context to really help our listeners understand the scale?
2:42
Yeah, absolutely.

So thank you both for the invitation to be here, and I'm really pleased to be talking about this research because it's been y- a very large undertaking, a labor of love, but I think that it offers a lot of very valuable information and, and numerous insights for the profession.

So as you noted, it was intended to be a 10-year update to the 2016 ABA Hazelden Betty Ford study, which at the time, that was the largest national, and it was the first national study of, of lawyer mental health and substance use and wellbeing.

As we all know, the world's changed a lot in 10 years, and so we really did want to capture current data to identify anything that maybe has changed, improved, or worsened, but also to improve upon the methodology from that prior study.

So when we did that research, it was conducted in 2015, published in 2016, we did the best we could in achieving a sample that was intended to look like the profession.
3:39
Um, but there were, there were some shortcomings on a methodological standpoint, right? It wasn't a random sample.

I'm wondering if you could just talk about the vital nature of the LAPS, right, not only in conducting this survey, but also in the importance of the work that they do with lawyers across the country.
