How did you grow up? How did you get involved in politics? Did you always know you wanted to be involved?

So I grew up in a theater family in New York.

So a very kind of unconventional start to my career in the national security arena.

My dad was one of the founders of the off-Broadway theater movement, and so I grew up in a lighting booth in a theater in Greenwich Village, basically, watching every production in the theater that he was managing.

Then he moved up to be a producer on Broadway, and I had theater in my blood.

I did a lot of theater.

I was one of those theater kids in high school all of that, so certainly those were good skills to learn.
