Sean MoncriefHOST
[upbeat musical tone] But Nora, given that you were, you were brought up a- a- at a time and in a household where a job for life was the thing, you t- you took the job for life, what changed?

Nora CaseyGUEST
So I wasn't great at my career choices, now you're about to discover, because I went from a nurse to being a journalist.

Nora CaseyGUEST
And, um, and if, I come from a long line of nurses, there's also a lot of journalists in my family, and I did my two years, uh, post-grad, which was everything from T line shorthand to news writing.

Nora CaseyGUEST
When I finished doing print journalism, I did television studio production and direction at Ealing College for two years at night, and I did my radio at the BBC.

Nora CaseyGUEST
So I kind of spent my 20s, which is meant to be the decade of indulgence, by the way, so in your 20s, in Ireland in particular, it's 23 to 33, a little bit older than the rest of the world, when you finish studying and it's all about me, me, me, and you spend on yourself, and you've no pension, career, partner, you know, you, you just have this wonderful sort of decade.

Nora CaseyGUEST
But my decade in my 20s, I not only did that, I went off and did a master's at the University of Wales when I was coming up to 30 and transferred to a PhD.

Nora CaseyGUEST
And because I very cleverly married my nursing qualification with my journalism qualification, um, I started working for a medical nursing publishing company doing, of all things, peer-reviewed journals.
