have the choice of a public or a private sector experience but we know that a lot of families in Australia don't have the luxury of even having a choice about where which pathway they choose and I will say that because obviously as a midwife I also work And our relationship is really, really important.

And I think it's not a myth, but it's unfortunate that we have this entire rhetoric around midwives and obstetricians being polarised as professionals.

because actually the best way that we can care for women in australia and babies is to provide collaborative care and i've got lots of really good relationships with doctors as well one of the reasons women go into private obstetric care is rightly just like you said renee is that they're looking for continuity of both care provider which they get in the private system with their obstetrician and they're also looking for continuity of care which is very different so Continuity of care doesn't necessarily have to be only provided by one person because it's about an aligned philosophy, it's about consistent messaging, it's about consistent respect for the woman's right to be given information and make her own choice about what she would like.

And so a lot of women are going to have a very good experience in the private sector because they're getting that continuity of care and care provider.

And they may not understand the nuances around intervention rates or whether they're more likely to have intervention in the private sector versus the public sector.
